Other People’s Makeup: Maria Guevara, M.D.

Maria Guevara

“My makeup habits have definitely changed as my life has changed.” For Dr. Maria Guevara, a pulmonary critical care specialist who is currently a Medical Coordinator for Doctors Without Borders, form follows function. “Traveling between field work and city life has pared my routines down to a minimum.”

Having traded a lush life in the South for assignments in the developing world (her current one: Burma), Maria mostly keeps things simple. “Obviously, I don’t wear any makeup in the field, just sunscreen,” she says, “And I basically gave up lip gloss.”

But things have been added, too. “I never wore foundation until recently – I developed melasma, so it’s a matter of evening out my skin tone. And things like eyeliner and a cheek tint seem more useful now. It’s more about definition than piling makeup on.”

Ever the traveler, Maria keeps her makeup ready to go: “The bag is a tourist bag from Paris – my favorite city!”
