Other People’s Makeup: Mollie King

December 14, 2011

“Even though I don’t wear much makeup, I wear it every day. It’s a psychological thing.” Singer-songwriter Mollie King keeps her beauty tools at the ready. “Even camping, even at Bonaroo, where we’re covered in dirt, I make sure I have something on. People laugh at it, but with traveling and playing shows, it’s something consistent. No matter what’s going on, how crazy things are, I feel if I have my eyeliner on, the world has not ended.”

“I start out my day with my Lady Bug ice packs. I lie down with them over my eyes; it’s like a mini-meditation and they reduce under-eye bags. Mostly I leave my skin alone, just moisturize it a lot. It seems to me like women who are always scrubbing their face get more wrinkles!”

“I don’t wear foundation, but eyeliner is big with me. And I like sparkly – the ShinyMama and Tony&Tina glitters are my favorites, especially on stage. But mostly I don’t spend a lot on products. I can’t justify spending a lot of money on something I’m going to drop and break, and frankly, I’d rather spend the money on music or traveling.”

And then there’s Mollie’s extravagantly long, thick hair: “I try everything to smooth the frizz, but again, I mostly leave it alone. Most people wash their hair too much! If I’m riding horses I’ll use shampoo, but usually I’ll rinse it with conditioner.”
