“I approach beauty as a way of life!” Multidisciplinary Artist, magical fashion designer (and recent Project Runway All Star) Elisa Jimenez infuses life with beauty, and beauty with life. “Beauty starts with health and confidence, and starting with morning yoga and meditation, my routines incorporate that.”
Elisa then does an all-natural facial: “Green tea bags to depuff my eyes, olive oil around my eyes and on my fingertips, and honey on my lips.” The honey is nourishing, and allegorical: “I like to taste sweet, and to speak with sweetness. And once a week I do a full honey facial.”
Bodywise, Elisa keeps it natural, with a brown sugar scrub 3 times a week: “I like to be smooth and sweet. And I do a salt scrub once a month for purification. Occasionally I get an aloe leaf at the market, cut it open and use the gel on my body, especially my belly, breasts and thighs. It’s firming, but also very astringent – I don’t want to overdo it.”
Makeup is simple: concealer, mascara, and a berry stain – on cheeks and lips. “When I was younger a friend scared me out of wearing bright lipcolors. But I think they brighten up my face now. And I use lipcolor as cheek color – I like multi-use products.”
For Elisa, there is more to adornment than cosmetic correction: “I put sparkles on my heart chakra to remind myself of the fragility and strength involved in being an open-hearted human being. I feel that if I empower my heart, I will make the best choices.”
Magic involves fragrance, as well: “I use essential oils for guidance and creating personal space. I infuse my art and my clothes with them as well. My two favorite smells in the world are clove, which is so sensual – it even has the word ‘love’ in it! – and cinnamon which is an aphrodisiac and attracts money. It’s important to have some spice in life!”
