"Enjoyed" is the wrong word to describe my reaction to this series of posts about mirrors. What's the word for when something just sticks in your brain and you keep going back to think more about it? That's the word I'm looking for.

As the years go by (and by...and by), I find myself using the mirror more and more as a reality check. It's a way to keep a measured eye on the graying hairs, the age spots, the wrinkles. It's a way to remind myself that my weight may be close to what it was 20 or 30 years ago (though not as close as I'd like), but my age has moved on.

Then it becomes a matter (in part) of reckoning with that reality, and trying to find the beauty (or at least the public face I can be comfortable with) that exists today. Mirrors: a tool for keeping oneself honest.

Meli, I love this post!!! I've gone through fasts, and have given up things for forty days. But I've never considered going on a "mirror fast." It would be interesting to see what thoughts and feelings can surface from doing such a fast. But not yet, not at this point in my life (I live in a super tiny apartment with mirrors everywhere--which was not my doing). Also, I just love how honest and intimate the writing is. Plus, you can never go wrong with Hitchcock references!!
